Dessert....

Improvement! Almost three months later, I am rewarded with seeing results...

Remember Gigi? Well, since she is Autistic, she is not very fond of using words to communicate with others. I read about a therapy to help connect with Autistic children by copying their excessively repeated actions and noises. Ever since I started doing that, Gigi and I have become quite close considering her condition. Although we don't really talk, it's some type of power that Gigi now possesses that she never has experienced, all by this form of communicating with me. So far I have received two hugs on her behalf, as well as a good hand squeeze, (this is remarkable considering her dislike of touching anyone).

Anyways, everyday I always say, "Hi Gigi", and she never has replied without me coaxing her, "Now it's your turn, what do you say? Say, Hi Ms. Diaz". After my coaching, she repeats what she is supposed to reply. This has gone on for three months. Yesterday I said to her as always, "Hi Gigi, how are you?" and she
replied saying, "Hi Ms. Diaz" ALL ON HER OWN!!!

I might as well have thrown a party for her! I exclaimed how proud of her I was that she remembered her part and ended my celebration with a high five, (which, of course, was not enough, so she gave me four more high fives till she was satisfied).

A win. Who doesn't need a win? Although having my pal Mc making me scrumptious lunches was nice this week, it was nice to add a dessert to my plate.

The Gigi-ism for today is: "You can't touch poop! It'll give you a disease! What's that disease called? Cooties!!!"

That's so cool! You're being Jesus to that little girl. Awesome.

I love the quote too. Boys and poop have a lot in common I guess.
