Counting

Here is a very cool experiment we recently studied in Cognitive Neuroscience. Check out the following link and watch the video. There will be two teams passing a basketball. A team with black shirts and a team with white shirts. See if you can count how many passes the white team makes. DON'T read anywhere below the link on this blog until you have seen the video and come up with the number of passes the white team has made!

Did you watch the movie already? Don't read on until you've seen the video!

Okay, how many passes did you count? Guess what... it doesn't matter. Did you notice anything unusual in this video? Watch again, and don't worry about the ball this time.

Did you see the gorilla? Is that amazing or what? Our brain does a thing called Inattentional Blindness or Change Blindness. If we are focused on a task, then our brain may filter out significant events that are irrelevant to our task. PHENOMENAL!

Learning that we don't use our vision to the best of our abilities was one thing, but the fact our brain actually filters out a giant gorilla is simply phenomenal if you ask me. The things I am learning in these courses makes me first of all, come home and want to spew out information that is astonishing to me, second of all, makes a polite listner have a glazed over look, and third of all, reiterates the wonders of the creator.

I hope you enjoyed this! I sure did!!
